Fed: Candidate reveals coalition split over nuclear power plants

A Nationals candidate says her party wouldn't allow the Liberals to build nuclear power
stations or waste storage facilities in Australia.

Dr SUE PAGE .. who's running for the federal seat of Richmond in New South Wales ..

says the Nationals are committed to opposing nuclear development.

The comments reveal a possible split between the Nationals and JOHN HOWARD .. who favours
a nuclear industry.

Dr PAGE says she's making the statement to head off an expected Labor scare campaign
about nuclear facilities on the north coast.

She says the Nationals' position is NOT to develop a nuclear power industry unless
.. and until .. it's supported by all major political parties at the federal and state
level.
