AN EXCITING BIT OF RECITING.(Capital Region)

ALBANY -- Maria Albrecht sat in the audience after she'd competed in the state Poetry Out Loud competition re-reading the sixth book in the "Harry Potter" series. That's how much the sophomore at Shenendehowa High School loves words.

"I've always been good at public speaking for some reason even though I'm shy," said Albrecht, who recited "Thoughtless Cruelty" by Charles Lamb and "Broken Promises" by David Kirby.

Albrecht was one of 14 students -- and one of four Capital Region teens -- to perform in the statewide poetry recitation competition at WAMC's Performing Arts Studio Saturday.
