VIC:No change in Molly Meldrum for Christmas
MELBOURNE, Dec 24 AAP - Molly Meldrum will spend Christmas under heavy sedation in
a Melbourne hospital as he recovers from a head injury sustained in a fall.
The 65-year-old remains in a serious but stable condition in The Alfred hospital nine
days after fracturing his skull in a fall at his Richmond home in inner Melbourne.
Meldrum fell three metres down steps while he was putting up Christmas decorations
outside the house.
The veteran television presenter underwent surgery midweek to repair fractures in his
collarbone and ribs.
His manager, Mark Klemens, said on Saturday there had been no change to his condition
in recent days.
"Christmas Day, unfortunately for Molly, probably isn't going to be dramatically different
(to recent days)," he said.
"Doctors don't know when he's likely to come out of this sedation and I know they are
reducing (sedation) levels, but they do it very carefully.
"Occasionally he opens his eyes and closes them, but it's really just a minor reaction
- he's not particularly responding to anything."
Mr Klemens said doctors had found no evidence of brain damage from the fall, but said
Meldrum "isn't out of the woods yet".
"All we are being told it's going to plan and things are progressing as you would expect
them to," Mr Klemens said.
